Queering Wales, Connecting People: Embracing Messy Joy, led by Ren Wolfe

Wednesday 31 July 2024 //  by laura.gill

Wednesday 31 July 2024
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Using your own practice as a road map, we’ll explore how we can overcome obstacles and infuse our creative practices with Messy Joy!

We’ll take a look at: embracing imperfections, navigating creative roadblocks, finding our inspiration (and what to do with it once we’ve found it), being kind to ourselves with things don’t turn out how we expected, and how we can bring more joy and fun into our creative practice.

Who it’s for: New artists (or people curious about getting creative), existing artists who are stuck in a funk with their practice/ are at a point of transition in their practice, anyone who wants a bit of inspiration/reinvigoration in their creative practice.

As a compliment to the talk, we’ll also be making our own Joy Monsters, cardboard creatures who can serve as our creative champions!

The session will consist of a workshop and a talk, aided by a powerpoint. The workshop will run alongside the talk, and you are welcome to sit and listen, to take notes, screenshots, or to carry on with the workshop task whilst I am talking (which ever suits your listening style best.) There will be check-ins throughout the talk where we stop and check in with what we’re making/ I give further instructions. There will also be a short 5 min break in the middle of the talk.

This talk is suitable for all ages.

Materials:

  • Cardboard: a cereal box or cardboard packaging works well.
  • Something to stick it together. Masking tape or a stapler are ideal. (Glue tends to be tricky as you have to wait for it to dry, but hot glue does work.)
  • Felt tip pens/markers/paint – anything you like to make a mark!
  • Scissors (you can also just rip the cardboard though!)

Register in advance for this meeting: Zoom Link

The Queering Wales – Connecting People project is run by On Your Face.

On Your Face is a social enterprise bringing visibility to the LGBTQ+ creatives of Wales through queer cultural events in the rural areas, an online directory (onyourfacecollective.org) and the creation of paid jobs for the community across Wales.
