New opportunity – Freelance Time-Based Media Conservator

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is looking for a Time-Based Media Conservator to work on a dedicated access project reviewing our screen-based collection.

The role will require an understanding of individual artworks, their needs for acquisition, production techniques, display requirements, and the risks for long-term preservation.

Responsibilities will include undertaking collection care and preventive conservation activity, contributing to the development of strategies, procedures, and workflows for the preservation of artworks, and working independently on the examination, processing, and treatment of time-based media artworks.

  • Documentation of the artworks and associated equipment
  • Interviewing Artists to ensure an accurate record of the parameters for display
  • Providing specialist advice to a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrating effective organisational, time management, and planning skills

The successful candidate will either hold a recognised qualification in conservation or have equivalent relevant experience for working with time-based media artworks. An understanding of the issues associated with time-based media artworks and equipment is essential, and it is desirable to understand the emerging themes and challenges within the discipline of time-based media conservation.

This position is offered on a fixed-term contract until 30th March 2026. Swansea Council is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from all candidates.

Expressions of interest are welcome before the closing date of November 7, 2025, with activity expected to take place throughout December 25 to March 26.

The fee is £9,450 for a maximum of 27 full day’s work (7.5hrs), to include collection review, artist interviews and documentation, as arranged.
