Creative Workshops for young people (age 13-17): Performance Art with Nature

Tuesday 28 April 2026 //  by laura.gill

Tuesday 28 April 2026
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Creative Workshops for young people (age 13-17) drawing on the screen-based collection with artist Zillah Bowes

Peter Finnemore, Birdwatcher, 2004 – 2005

Performance Art with Nature
Tuesday 28 April 2026
1:30pm – 4:30pm

A performance workshop using nature inspired by Peter Finnemore’s Birdwatcher series and Eve of Destruction, 2004.

Participants will develop a simple, 2–3 minute artist performance of themselves interacting with nature in the gallery garden or garden room. Drawing on humour and observation, this performance will be a single, continuous action, exploring nature elements such as plants, soil, birds, weather or sound. Participants will either respond directly to what they see, hear and feel in the moment, or interpret a music track or song of their choice. The final performance will be filmed in one take by gallery staff, creating a live record of it for possible future screening in the gallery.

Zilah Bowes

Zillah is a multi-disciplinary artist and filmmaker with a practice across film, photography, poetry,
installation and sculpture. Her work frequently explores the relationship between the individual
and the natural environment.

Refreshments will be provided, any dietary requirements please do let us know.

Travel bursaries available up to £25 per participant to support travel costs to
Glynn Vivian Art Gallery for each workshop.

This programme has been made possible with the support of the BFI Screen Heritage
Fund, awarding National Lottery funding.
