Creative Workshops for young people (age 13-17): Visual Poetry

Tuesday 2 June 2026 //  by laura.gill

Tuesday 2 June 2026
1:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Creative Workshops for young people (age 13-17) drawing on the screen-based collection with artist Zillah Bowes

Yingmei Duan, Talk to Myself, 2002

Visual Poetry
Tuesday 2 June 26
1:30pm – 4:30pm

A visual poetry workshop using self-questioning and found objects inspired by Yingmei Duan’s Talk to Myself, 2002.

Participants will make paper-based artworks in a hands-on visual poetry workshop. They will use objects from the gallery garden, workshop space or their own belongings, combining these with short text that they devise during the session and/or with found words and text provided in the workshop. Participants will use prompts to guide self-questioning and reflections on life, time, identity and their experiences. They will experiment with arranging objects, layering text and combining materials to create visual poems blending image and language in playful ways.

Zilah Bowes

Zillah is a multi-disciplinary artist and filmmaker with a practice across film, photography, poetry,
installation and sculpture. Her work frequently explores the relationship between the individual
and the natural environment.

Refreshments will be provided, any dietary requirements please do let us know.

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery for each workshop.

This programme has been made possible with the support of the BFI Screen Heritage
