Pete Davis, ‘observations – collections – recollections’ – a lifetime in photography
A Friends of the Glynn Vivian artist talk
This Friends of the Glynn Vivian talk will trace Pete Davis documentary work from early projects to many of his major exhibitions and publications, including current work in progress.
The documentary photography of Dr Pete Davis can be seen in many important national and international art collections including the Arts Council of Wales, National Library of Wales, Museo Genna Maria, Sardinia, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
Pete has been photographing since the age of eleven. After ten years as an advertising and fashion photographer, he moved to west Wales where he embarked on numerous field trips around the British Isles, Europe and the U.S.A. He has represented Wales twice at the Festival Interceltique, Lorient, Brittany, and is a past winner of the Wakelin Award.
Pete also served as national chair of the Association of Artists and Designers in Wales, as secretary of the Visual Artists Rights Society and on the council of management of the Fotogallery, Cardiff. For eighteen years Pete was senior lecturer in Documentary Photography at the University of Wales, Newport and for nine years was the course leader. He was awarded a Ph.D in Fine Art at Aberystwyth University in 2009 and continues to teach – currently as a Ph.D supervisor at Aberystwyth University and is working on a number of projects and publications.
