Sunday 12 October 2025
1:00 pm - 1:15 pm
Swansea based artist Nazma Botanica will do a live-art performance using the rituals of preparing traditional cultural foods (chapatis and Welsh cakes), to open up Welsh and Asian culture to the possibilities of parallels and exchanges between the two.
Food is useful as a metaphorical tool in enabling opportunities for communal gathering, stimulating dialogue, blurring boundaries, and the shared experience.
Namza says: “This performance is concerned with refining my personal cultural identity. I was born in Wales and I am rooted in Wales; I don’t just happen to be here. I am not here to promote Asian culture. Nor am I here to promote Welsh culture. I am here to do neither – and to do both.”
Nazma Botanica is a multidisciplinary artist. Returning to study art at the age of thirty, Nazma won Access Student of the Year before going on to gain a Masters Degree in Contemporary Dialogues: Fine Art. As well as using paint, collage, sculpture, and occasionally performance as her media, Nazma has also used the written word to find her voice. At present Nazma is working within the field of wellbeing and is very much interested in how nature can improve emotional health.
