New Acquisitions: Gifts from the Contemporary Art Society of Wales

Wednesday 11 August 2021 //  by laura.gill

Wednesday 11 August 2021 - Sunday 5 September 2021
10:30 am - 4:00 pm

The Gallery is delighted to announce three new gifts for the permanent collection, generously donated by the Contemporary Art Society for Wales (CASW).

‘Fleurs dans un Vase’ from ‘The Last Flowers of Manet’, by Lara Davies, 2019. Oil on canvas.
‘Roses Mousseuses dans un Vase from ‘The Last Flowers of Manet’ 2, by Lara Davies, 2019. Oil on canvas.
‘Blue Vertical Painting’ by Paul Emmanuel, 2019. Acrylic and Beulah fleece on stretcher bars.

The society, conceived in 1930s to support the visual arts in Wales is largely self-financing through subscriptions and profits made from educational activities. All public and charitable collections in Wales have benefited enormously from CASW.

In 2020 the person charged with the selection was Andrew Green, a regular reviewer of art exhibitions since retiring from the post of Librarian of the National Library of Wales.

Green selected three works by Paul Emmanuel: Blue Vertical Painting will be housed at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and the other works, Green Nantyffin and Soft Vessel, will have a permanent home in Y Gaer, Brecon. Of the works acquired from Lara Davies, Fleurs dans un vase from the Last Flowers of Manet 2 and Roses mousseuses dans un vase from the Last Flowers of Manet 2 will go to the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery and Details of Lilas blancs dans un vase de verre from the Last Flowers of Manet will be housed at Oriel Plas Glyn-y-Weddw, Llanbedrog.
