Join us for this free talk with Helen Mavin, Head of Photographs, Imperial War Museums!
Helen is responsible for the care and strategic development of the collection which comprises of approximately 11 million items across negative, print, and digital formats.
Helen’s exhibition contributions include the Blavatnik Art, Film and Photography Galleries at IWM London, Wim Wenders: Photographing Ground Zero and Robert Capa: D-Day in 35mm. She has researched colonial language and gaze in Second World War photographic collections and is currently co-supervising a PhD with Cardiff University.
This event is part of Ffoto Cymru 2024 – Wales International Festival of Photography.
Ffoto Cymru 2024 debuts in venues across the country in October 2024. Building on the successes of five editions of Diffusion Festival, audiences are invited to engage with photography in new and meaningful ways through a programme of exhibitions, commissions, conversations, public installations and events.
Diffusion: Cardiff International Festival of Photography is a biennial month-long international festival of photography taking place in Cardiff, Wales’ capital city. The festival is initiated and delivered by Ffotogallery in collaboration with a wide range of local, national and international partners and supporters.
This event is part of a programme of activities to celebrate Heather Phillipson’s Out of this World exhibition.
