Day 1: Learning & Analysis (September 28th at Glynn Vivian Art Gallery)
In this session, participants will dive into the key elements of photography with a focus on action and sport. We’ll cover:
- Composition: How to frame action shots, use leading lines, and capture powerful moments in the skateboarding environment.
- Camera Settings for Mobile Devices: How to make the most of burst mode, focus lock, and other settings that help freeze fast-moving subjects.
- Angles and Perspectives: Techniques for shooting from different angles to capture the energy of the skater.
- Analysis of Iconic Skate Photos: A breakdown of well-known skate photography, discussing how they capture movement, personality, and skate culture.
This will be an interactive session, with opportunities to discuss and practice these skills to prepare participants for the practical session.
Day 2: Practical Session (October 5th at Exist Skatepark)
This second session is all about putting theory into practice. Participants will head to the skatepark, where they’ll photograph real skaters in action. Here, they’ll apply:
- Action Photography Techniques: Capturing the energy and movement of skaters in a fast-paced, real-world environment.
- Composition and Timing: Finding the right moments to shoot for impactful images.
- Engaging with the Skatepark Environment: Learning how to safely navigate the space, anticipate movement, and work with skaters to get the best shots.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have developed a portfolio of skate photography and the confidence to pursue action/sports photography on their own.
