Chinese Spring Festival Workshop: Papercutting

This February, we continue the Chinese New Year celebrations with two special spring festival workshops at Glynn Vivian

Papercutting

For this workshop you will need:

  • Scissors

  • Thin, coloured paper

 

11:30 – Talk and presentation: Story of the Zodiac animals; Paper cutting and the Chinese Spring Festival

11:45 – Listen to Chinese spring festival folk music followed by a practical session.  Basic principles of paper cutting: folding and cutting; Paper cutting practice with a simple motif

12:00 – Talk and Presentation: Folk motifs in Spring Festival paper art

12:15 – Practical session: Choose an image for paper cutting

12:45   Break – Tea Ceremony

13:15 – Talk and Presentation: Examples of contemporary paper cuts in China

13:25 – Practical session: Design your own paper cutting

 

Free, everyone welcome.
