Panel Discussion: Signs & Symbols
12:30pm – 13:15pm
Panelists: Iwan Bala, Peter Finnemore and Bushra Waqas Khan.
Moderator: Dr Zehra Jumabhoy, Lecturer in the History of Art (University of Bristol) and Co-Curator of Tigers & Dragons
Bala was a member of the seminal Beca group of artists, formed by brothers Peter and Paul Davies in the 1970s to champion Welsh identity. On this panel, he will join forces with Peter Finnemore from Wales and Lahore-based Khan, whose artworks (tiny fairytale dresses, such as Blodeuwedd, 2025) reference Welsh mythology and identity politics. As they discuss equivalences between South Asia and Wales, the symbol of the Red Dragon steers the conversation.
