Glynn Vivian at Night

Thursday 23 November 2023 //  by laura.gill

Thursday 23 November 2023
5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

A photograph of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery from the street, lit up at night Experience the Art Gallery after hours

You are warmly invited to celebrate the opening of;

gludafael / holdfast

Kathryn Ashill, Angela Davies, Kirsti Davies, Dylan Huw, Durre Shahwar, Rhys Slade-Jones, Fern Thomas, Heledd Wyn

Glynn Vivian is excited to present gludafael / holdfast, a group exhibition in which a collective of eight artists navigate art’s capacity to respond to the climate emergency.

This exhibition has been commissioned by Natural Resources Wales, supported by the Arts Council of Wales and Glynn Vivian, and developed with curator Louise Hobson. The artists were first brought together through the 2022 Future Wales Fellowship.

From 6:15pm, artist Durre Shahwar will share a reading which speaks of the central concerns in MATKA – displaced experiences, changing planetary rhythms, tools of support for times to come, and how we act in solidarity with others in struggle.

At 6:30pm, artist Rhys Slade-Jones invites you to join the chorus and sift through shared struggles as we imagine our collective future, and what old age we would like to have when we get there. Featuring chutney made by the women of Treherbert Old Age.

Then, at 7pm, artist Kathryn Ashill will be performing, Sustaining Phat / Phat Sustainability, a response to her working class experience of the climate crisis, and seeing whose voice is (and isn’t) shaping the conversation, and who is (and isn’t) being blamed.

The artists invite you to join them from 8pm for an after party at Elysium Gallery.

Exhibitions, art and craft workshops, performance, live music, bar and café open

Free, everyone welcome
