Projects and Partnerships

At the Glynn Vivian, we believe our partnerships are integral to the future of the gallery and we will continue to celebrate all past, present, and future Projects and Partners.

National Gallery’s 2025 Artist in Residence

The National Gallery has announced Singaporean artist Ming Wong as its new Artist in Residence for 2025. Wong has been invited to respond to the collections of the National Gallery and this year’s partner museum, Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in Swansea.

ArtAngel

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is excited to be a part of the nationwide project Come As You Really Are,  by Hetain Patel, commissioned and produced by Artangel. This exciting exhibition showcases unique hand-crafted objects, with contributions from hobbyists from around the UK.

The project is made up of 13 regional presentations across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales from Summer 2024 – 2026, collaborating to assemble a nationwide celebration of creativity and self-expression.

Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund & Swansea Stories 

The fund, awarded by the Museums Association, aims to support projects that bring collections closer to people. The grant will allow the Gallery to develop a new two-year project, to radically re-evaluate part of the Permanent Collection.

Heather Phillipson, Out of This World, IWM & 1418NOW 

A national partnership programme of over 20 artist commissions inspired by the heritage of conflict, Heather Phillipson’s Out of this World is an IWM 14-18 NOW Legacy Fund commission in partnership with Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.

CELF: national contemporary art gallery for Wales

The exciting national flagship project for Wales is designed to widen access to Wales’ publicly owned art collections and support artists currently living and working in Wales by providing associated commissioning and exhibiting opportunities. 

The Street Matters 

The Street Matters is a project in partnership with Caredig, EYST, YMCA and Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, which aims to bring significant cultural and community investment into St Helens Road to develop a community vision.

Our Visual World

Our Visual World is here to help Deaf artists in South Wales. Creating a networking group where Deaf artists can connect and learn from each other.

National Portrait Gallery Skills Sharing Programme

Twelve museums and galleries from across the UK come together to engage in a skills and knowledge sharing programme.

Artes Mundi

The mission of Artes Mundi is to bring exceptional international art to Wales and to generate unique opportunities for individuals and local communities to engage creatively with the urgent issues of our time in ways which resonate with us all.

Plus Tate 

The Glynn Vivian is a member of the  Plus Tate network, one of 35 Galleries across the UK, whose work is recognised for its innovation and relevance. 

Paul Mellon Centre 

The Paul Mellon Centre is an educational charity that champions new ways of understanding British art history and culture.  

Dr Zehra Jumabhoy is currently curatorial research fellow at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery funded by the Paul Mellon Centre for British Art, working on a major project Imperial Subjects (Post) Colonial Conversations between Wales and South Asia.

Art UK

Hundreds of oil paintings from the Gallery’s collection including works by Monet, Pissarro and Evan Walters are among those included on the  Art UK website. 

Bloomberg Connects

Glynn Vivian has launched a new, digital guide on Bloomberg Connects, the free arts and cultural app created by Bloomberg Philanthropies. 

Visual Arts Group Wales

Visual Arts Group Wales (VAGW) is an independent, voluntary network that exists to strengthen the contemporary visual arts sector in Wales through partnership, advocacy and training. 

Friends of the Glynn Vivian

The Friends play an active part in the Gallery, providing volunteers, contributing to the purchase of works that extend the Gallery collection and supporting the Gallery’s programmes.


Learning Programme

HarMINDize & African Community Centre 

The African Community Centre (ACC) is committed to breaking down barriers, promoting participation and community cohesion as well as facilitating a better understanding of African culture within our local community. The Gallery works in partnership with ACC on their HarMINDize project, delivering art and creative skills workshops for young people from different backgrounds.

ILA Wales

A group of Ibero-Latin American, Welsh and English people who have joined forces to work for our community in order to preserve, strengthen and enhance the heritage of our cultures and languages, as well as to share them with other local and national communities.

Sightlife

Sight life is a charity that provides a wide range of local services so that blind and partially sighted people across South Wales can enjoy independent, active, social and fulfilled lives. 

Sightlife meet every week at the Gallery for social sessions and artists led workshops every month. they also enjoy guided audio descriptive tours of the exhibitions which are open to the public.

Foster Wales

Foster Wales is a collaboration – a national network of all the Local Authority fostering teams in Wales.

Carers Centre

Swansea Carers Centre is a specialist voluntary organisation providing support to carers and former carers across Swansea.

Queer Shapes

Queer Shapes aims to enhance the arts by providing a safe space for marginalised bodies of all kinds to be celebrated through life modelling.

Queers Shapes life drawing sessions take place once a month at Glynn Vivian and is open to everyone.

On Your Face & Queering Wales, Connecting People

On your face is a social enterprise bringing the queer creatives of Wales to the forefront.  

The Glynn Vivian continues to support On Your Face through mentorship, partnerships and their monthly online talks programme.

Queer Tawe

Queer tawe is an intergenerational project for LGBTQIA+ people in Swansea, with creativity at the heart of it. Creating safe, queer and sober spaces throughout 2024 for people to attend a variety of creative workshops for FREE.

Swansea City of Sanctuary

Swansea Council’s Glynn Vivian Art Gallery has become the first in the UK to be awarded the accolade Art Gallery of Sanctuary.
